About 15 percent of the Santa Paula Blazers Track Club have achieved elite varsity standards times at meets this season. They competed this past weekend at Moorpark High School. Top athletes from the Ventura County Youth Track Club were at the meet. This includes Santa Paula, Ojai, Santa Barbara, Oxnard, Ventura, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park and Camarillo. JV Blazers win a half dozen first place ribbons

The Santa Paula Blazers Track Club had JV finals this month at Rio Mesa High School. Six of the Santa Paula competitors took first place honors. Vivian Gaxiola, 13 won the Junior Girls 2-mile race with a time of 13.44. Isaiah Bentancourt, Elijah Lee, Joseph Garcia and Christian Garcia, 6-7 year olds, took first in the Gremlin Boys 4 x 100-meter race at 1.15.50. Casey Siuniak, 11, won the one mile race in the Midget Girls category with a time of 6.32.25. Nick Collins, 14, Intermediate Boys, took the one-mile contest at 5.24. Delanie Baker, 8, Gremlin Girls, won the 100-meter race at 19.59 and Myles Castaneda, 6, Gremlin Boys, won the long jump with a jump of 2.33 meters and the 400 at 39.66 (he was the only youngster to take two first place ribbons).
