Five Santa Paula Cardinal baseball players have been selected for Frontier League All-League honors. Mike Cortez, a junior and Mark Castaneda, a senior were both chosen for the First Team. Jake Phillips and Mark Salazar, both seniors, were named to the Second Team and Tony Manzano, a senior was given honorable mention.The Cards finished third in the Frontier League with a 4-7 league record at the conclusion of regular play. They lost in the Wildcard Round of the CIF playoffs to Cabrillo High School in Santa Maria.Cortez ended the season as one of the top pitchers in the league with a 3.48 ERA.The Oaks Christian Lions also dominated in baseball, with three players on the First Team, two on the Second Team and one given honorable mention.
Two Oaks Christian players share MVP honors and the Lions’ coach was selected as coach of the year.Cortez, Castaneda, Salazar and Phillips have also been named to the All-County, Division II baseball team.
