Santa Paulans for a Safe Community – Yes on Measures J & K are holding a Public Safety Home Tour on Sunday, October 10, with tours running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. One site featured on the tour is the home of Wayne and Leontine Shockley, 545 Monte Vista Place. Wayne and Leontine Shockley pulled permits to build their custom home in May of 2001. They completed the four bedroom, three-bath home the following year, receiving their Certificate of Occupancy in May of 2002.Architect Chris Short out of Camarillo specifically designed the house for the Shockleys. Wayne Shockley was the owner builder, doing most of the work himself. The entire house has a state of the art cable system, as Wayne is in the cable installation business. The main floor consists of the kitchen, dining room, large family room and expansive living room. Two fireplaces in the family room and living room add to the custom design. The kitchen cabinets are custom crafted with a very unique finish. Most of the first floor is covered with custom wood flooring, which was also completed by Wayne and his contractor friends. The upstairs consists of three bedrooms. The master bedroom gives an expansive feel with the use of vaulted ceilings, and a large master bath compliments the bedroom area. The entire master bedroom overlooks the City of Santa Paula and every room gives a great view. The two bedrooms to the north give an unobstructed view of Fagan Canyon. The Shockleys took advantage of the hillside location by adding a large deck area in the front of the house. The large driveway leading up to the house was stamped and colored to coordinate with the rest of the custom features. This 2,500 square foot house has been built into the hillside and now is a featured home in Santa Paula’s hillside development.
Other homes featured on the tour include the Teague Mansion at 7 McKevett Heights, home of Mike and Anitra Sommer at 1024 Beech Street, and the home of Rick and Sally Cook at 725 Loma Vista.Tickets for the tour are $10 per person for the tour only, and $20 for the tour and a barbecue dinner. It is advised that you get your tickets early by calling Al Guilin at 525-8839 or Dan Campos at 525-3378. Tickets are available at the Santa Paula Times, 944 E. Main Street.
