Tall ships Hawaiian Chieftain and Lady Washington commence the annual voyage along the California coast and sail into Ventura Harbor on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 and remain through Monday, February 6, 2012.
The historical vessels will dock in front of Brophy Brothers Restaurant & Clam Bar and Milano’s Italian Restaurant in the Ventura Harbor Village. Coinciding with the first weekend of the Tall Ship visit, the First Company Washington Artillery of New Orleans will build a replica Civil War Military Camp circa 1861 - 1865, Saturday and Sunday January 28 & 29.
Catch the mystical sight of the Tall Ships during the grand arrival January 24, 2012. A photographer’s delight, the ships depart for Battle Sails January 28 & 29, and February 4 & 5 out of the Harbor at 2 PM and return between 4:30 - 5 PM. The best viewing locations are at Harbor Cove Beach, Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center and Ventura Harbor Village.
Open to the public from January 25, the Dockside Tours will take place each weekday (except Mondays for training) from 4 PM - 5 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM - 1 PM. Dockside tours allow a look into authentic 18th-century sailor’s view of the Harbor and surroundings. Take a Dockside Tour and dine for breakfast, lunch, or dinner at one of the Ventura Harbor Village’s 13 restaurants overlooking the Tall Ships and the boats.
Looking for more adventure? Three Hour Battle or Adventure Sails complete with firing cannons and hoisting of the main sails are just the ticket! Battle Sails feature a recreation of a naval skirmish with close quarters maneuvers and are available Saturday & Sunday, January 28 & 29, and February 4 & 5, 2 PM - 5 PM. Adventure Sails take place on Sundays, January 29 & February 5, 10 AM - 1 PM.
On Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29 the First Company Washington Artillery of New Orleans makes a reappearance complete with living history replica military camp from 1861 - 1865 including a hospital, tents, musket and pistol demonstrations, cannons, an antique gun display, and live music by Watermelon Pie on the Ventura Harbor Village Main Lawn. The soldiers dressed in period uniforms interact with the Tall Ships by shooting Cannons as the Tall Ships depart for Battle or Adventure Sails. Visitors can interact and talk with the reenactors and learn more about this time in history. Cannon and pistol demonstrations throughout the day from 10 AM - 5:30 PM. This event is open to the public and includes a President Abraham Lincoln impersonator wandering through the camp.

The Hawaiian Chieftain and Lady Washington travel down the West Coast stopping in ports and harbors for historical and educational visits. These ships host over 15,000 school children a year.
