Santa Paula Fire personnel were among a large response to a brushfire that broke out Sunday morning near Piru that drew 48 units of responders.

Ventura County firefighters responded to the blaze, located near Highway 126 and East La Falda Way, at about 8:52 a.m. The light brush was burning on hard to reach steep terrain in the hills and firefighters were flown to the blaze. There were no structures in the area.

Firefighters also had to avoid transmission lines near the area of the fire, but none were reported damaged. Southern California Edison also responded to the scene to investigate the lines.

Crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Fillmore and Santa Paula Fire Departments, state fire and the U.S. Forest Service assisted with the fire that burned about 88 acres before was it declared 95 percent contained. Among the responders were a Ventura County bulldozer, two helicopters, four hand crews and 10 engines. The helicopters were using water from a nearby private reservoir to drop on the fire, and a fixed wing air tanker was dropping retardant on the blaze.

Most of the fire had burned itself out as of 1 p.m., but firefighters planned on spending the night to ensure the blaze did not spread. One firefighter was injured during the firefight and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Highway 126 remained open and the blaze did not seem to be affecting traffic.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
