If you haven’t visited the Fair this year there are still plenty of events and attractions for the whole family to enjoy. The Fair opens at 11 a.m. daily, with exhibit buildings closing at 10 p.m. Admission prices are $7 for adults (13-54), $4 for seniors (55+) and juniors (6-12), with children 5 and under admitted free. On Friday, August 10, California Oil Museum and Historical Society Members from Santa Paula will be available at the museum booth, located in the Ag Building.Wednesday, August 8 is Pepsi Day. With a coupon available on Pepsi products at participating Vons markets only while supplies last, a $15 Family Admission admits two adults (age 13+) and all youth (12 and under) in the immediate family. Coupons are not available at Seaside Park.Wednesday attendees are invited to hear Wynonna at 7:30 p.m. in the Grandstand Arena. Then stick around for the fireworks, going up nightly at 9:30 p.m.All military personnel presenting a current military ID get free admission on Thursday, August 9, Military Appreciation Day. Mosey over to Porker Flats in the afternoon and catch the All Alaskan Racing Pigs. If you wish to extend your porcine program and feel in particularly fine voice, you might want to sign up with the Junior Fair Board for Hog Calling at 7 p.m. in Clark Pavilion. Then rest your lungs and enjoy the music of Pam Tillis and Brad Paisley at 7:30 in the Grandstand Arena.Get an early start on Friday, August 10 with the 48th Annual Junior Livestock Auction, beginning at 9 a.m. in Clark Pavilion. The Ventura County Fair’s Junior Livestock Auction is one of the oldest in California, and is a tradition that offers the public an opportunity to support county FFA and 4-H youth and the future of one aspect of agribusiness.If you like your livestock lively, check out the opening night of the PRCA Rodeo, kicking off in the Grandstand Arena at 7 p.m. The rodeo continues on Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.If the rodeo is not your style, you might want to limber up your lungs with Karaoke, coordinated by the Junior Fair Board. The event starts on the Pepsi Stage at 7:30 p.m.
Get the spirit on Saturday, August 11 with the 7th Annual High School Cheerleading Competition. AIM USA (Athletes in Motion) youth cheer teams from around the county and as far as Bakersfield will compete at this year’s Fair, starting at 12 noon on the Pepsi Community Stage. Teams are judged on technique, showmanship, appearance and tumbling skills using a 100-point system. Cities represented include Ventura, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Santa Paula, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and Bakersfield. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m.Saturday also offers the opportunity to vote your tastebuds in the 22nd Annual Ventura County Fair Chili Cookoff. The winner may compete in the World Championship Semi Finals or the California State Championships. First through fifth places receive trophies and cash awards of $300, $150, $75, $50 and $25 respectively. Trophies are awarded for Showmanship and Best Booth, and the chili selected by Fair guests as People’s Choice is awarded a trophy and $100. If you’re still hungry, from 1 to 4 p.m. the Ventura County Cattlemen’s Association presents beef tasting.Sunday, August 12, things may be winding down, but it’s not over yet! At 2 p.m. the Junior Fair Board presents a Sponge Race in the Children’s Dell. Or enjoy the last day of the rodeo in the Grandstand Arena at 2 and 7 p.m. And take a nostalgic moment when the final fireworks blast off at 9:30 p.m.On a daily basis Fairgoers are encouraged to view exhibits entered by men, women and children of all ages from all parts of Ventura County. You’ll be sure to find your favorite hobby or interest, whether in home arts and creative living, floriculture, gems and minerals, hobbies, models and collections, the horse shows, livestock shows, photography, professional arts, or any of the many youth exhibits - from arts to foods to animals.For food and fun and entertainment, come to the Fair!
