A 33-year-old Apple Valley man driving a new Dodge Charger was killed Thursday after crossing over into oncoming traffic on Highway 126 just east of Santa Paula.

Kyle Campbell was killed in the crash reported December 3 about 1:50 p.m. according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer Rolando Tejeda said Campbell was alone in his 2016 Dodge Charger westbound on Highway 126 east of Boosey Road, when “for reasons that are still under investigation,” the vehicle drifted over into between the eastbound fast lane and the center median.

Campbell’s Charger crashed head-on with a white Ford F-250 that was traveling in the eastbound fast lane.

“The collision caused the white Dodge Charger to spin out of control and veer into the westbound lanes,” where it collided with a red Nissan Sentra and a black Chevrolet Silverado 1500, both traveling in the fast westbound lane.

Tejeda said the driver of the Silverado lost control and collided with a Polaris Razor tractor that was stopped within the right shoulder of the westbound lanes.

Firefighters from Santa Paula, Ventura County and Fillmore Fire departments responded to the scene and were required to use the Jaws of Life to extricate Campbell from the Dodge Charger. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the red Nissan Sentra sustained minor injuries and was not transported. The drivers of the Ford F-150, black Chevrolet Silverado and the Polaris Razor did not sustain any injuries.

The crash shut down the highway in both directions for a time causing a significant back up in both directions while vehicles were diverted. Highway 126 was fully reopened about 5 p.m.

According to Tejeda the collision is still under investigation by the Ventura Area CHP Office; anyone who witnessed or has information regarding the collision is asked to call the CHP at (805) 477-4100.
