Tickets are only $50 a couple — singles are invited also for only $30 a ticket — for this pre-Valentine’s Day celebration. You’ll enjoy a Garden Market dinner, something sweet for your sweetheart (aside from canoodling) for dessert as well as dancing to Johnny & The Love Handles, who will rock the Community Center all night with old time rock ‘n’ roll.
“We might even have some dance contests,” said Kiwanis Club President Carol Wood. “It will be fun!”
Doors will open at 5 p.m. at the Community Center (230 W. Main St.) and there will be a No Host Bar serving until 9:45 p.m. Dinner will be at 6 p.m., dancing to Johnny & The Love Handles from 7 to 10 p.m. and a break for a great raffle at 9:15 p.m.
Dress noted Wood,. is casual, as “You don’t have to dress up to be romantic…”
This is the first Sweetheart Dance for the club which each year stages the Citrus Festival.
The celebration of all things romantic was prompted by the club’s desire to “Get back in the swing of things, get more events out in the community, to get people involved and raise money for the kids.”
All proceeds from this fun, romantic evening will be donated to the Santa Paula AKTION Club sponsored by Kiwanis, Santa Paula High School (SPHS) Key Club, Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Clara Valley and the SPHS Future Farmers of America (FFA).
The February 13 event will also be nostalgic, as “You don’t see them that often anymore, sweetheart dances celebrating Valentine’s Day,” complete with hearts and pink and red decorations.
And, Wood noted the winter is perfect: “This time of the year it’s pretty quiet in Santa Paula. There’s plenty going on in Santa Paula during the summer months, the Kiwanis Citrus Festival, Hot Summer Jazz & Art, Moonlight at the Ranch among others, but really not much during the wintertime.”
Tickets for the February 13 Kiwanis Club’s Sweetheart Dance are available at the Heritage Valley ARC (116 N. 10th St.), Santa Paula Times (120 Davis St.) and the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce (200 N. 10th St.).
Wood said the club is excited about staging a new event.
“And, when we get this done then we’ll get ready for the Citrus Festival,” that Wood said is returning with more attractions this year.
“So,” she added, “we have some work ahead of us!”
