Dean enjoyed family barbecues, bowling with his friends, golfing with the guys, playing poker with the boys, and camping with the Rig Runners. He also loved to take road trips. Dean and Dottie would pack up their motor home and be off to reunions with family and friends in many different states.He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his wife of 42 years, Dottie; his aunt Edna Walter of Disney, Arkansas; brother and sister-in-law Earl and Vivian Howard of Santa Paula; brother and sister-in-law Delbert and Annette Howard of Oak View; son Stanley Dean Howard-Sponseller of Ventura; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Mark Hallen of Roseburg, Oregon; daughter and son-in-law Donna and George Griffiths of Camarillo; daughter and son-in-law Debi and Mickey Wilmot of Fillmore; daughter Denise Howard-Wilson and fiancé Alan Driver of Grand Rapids, Michigan; son and daughter-in-law Darin and Kathleen Howard of Santa Paula; grandchildren Jennifer, Heather, Mark, Megan, McKenna, Tiffany, Anthony, Amber, Joseph, Matthew, Ralph, Travis, Steven, Lindsay, and Liam; five great grandchildren; and many loving family members.A memorial to his life will be held Saturday, July 6 at 2 p.m. at the Free Will Baptist Church, 406 Acacia Rd., Santa Paula.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.

John Thomas Woods
John Thomas Woods, born July 17, 1929, a life long Ventura County resident, passed away after an acute illness on June 27, 2002. At the age of 72 he was still self-employed as a general, electrical and plumbing contractor. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1947, and from Utah State with a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1951.He was a retired captain in the Air Force and had received the National Defense Service Award. He was a member of many fraternal organizations, including Sigma Nu fraternity, Moose and Elks. He was one of the founding directors of the Lion’s Drag Strip in Long Beach. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Cryptic Masons, Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templar, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Tri County Legion of Honor, Fillmore-Santa Paula Shrine Club, and past president of the Palm Springs Shrine Club. He was an auto enthusiast and restored many antique autos in his lifetime. He also was a tinkerer and held several patents.He is survived by his wife, Margaret Woods of Fillmore; son John Woods and wife Diana of Atlanta, Georgia; son Paul Woods and wife Joanne of Carrolton, Texas; son Frederick Woods and his wife Stephanie; and daughter Ann Perez and her husband Richard. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Heather, Edick, Dakota John Michael and Marie Woods, and Jordan Perez.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 6 at 1 p.m. at the Santa Paula Masonic Temple located at 102 N. 7th Street. There will be a private interment at Ivy Lawn in Ventura. The angels came for Dean on Sunday, June 30, with his family at his side.He was born in Strawberry, Arkansas to Columbus and Alta Howard on June 19, 1930. The family moved to California when he was a young teenager, settling at Limoneira. Dean graduated from Santa Paula High School with the class of ’48. He served his country for a short time with the National Guard. He drove for Campbell Trucking prior to becoming a Ventura County Deputy Sheriff. After 13 years of service he retired in 1976. Not one to be idle for long he returned to the work field, employed by Santa Paula Lanes, Cauch’s Drug Store, and Fatco.
