He was born December 21, 1916 in San Francisco, and was a Santa Paula resident for 40 years.Bob worked for J. C. Penney for 25 years, and owned and operated Irene's Dress Shop in Santa Paula. He was an avid golfer, a member of the Saticoy Country Club, and a member of Rotary International for 47 years.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane; sons, Jim (wife Tamara) of Saratoga, and Jefferey of Hawaii; granddaughters Jennifer and Kathern; grandsons Matthew and Zackery; and sister Lucille Swisher of Castro Valley. He was preceded in death by his daughter Susan Jane.A memorial service will be held Friday, November 5 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 117 N. 7th St., Santa Paula, at 11:30 a.m.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob's name to Santa Clara Valley Hospice, 133 N. Bernice Mae Mitchell
Bernice Mae Mitchell died October 30, 1999, lovingly surrounded by her family.She was a 20 year resident of Ventura County, living in Santa Paula from 1960 to 1978, and in Piru from 1997 to 1999.Bernice was born September 26, 1914 at Pinetop, Oklahoma, to Nina Angeline and James Edward Parent. At age 9 when her mother died, she managed her family's household and took care of her younger brother. Being a homemaker, mother and grandmother became her lifetime work.At age 16 she married Ralph Archie Mitchell. They had a loving marriage that lasted for 44 years until he died in 1975. Together they had 12 children who they cherished.Bernice is survived by 11 children: Oleta Allen of Savanna, Oklahoma, James and Doyle Mitchell of Kiowa, Oklahoma, Clara Wheeler of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Archie Mitchell and Martha Craig of Santa Paula, Betty Cochran of Oxnard, Ruedean Grieve of Ventura, Marie Lynch of Piru, and Kay Cotton and Mary Meierhoff of Fillmore.She has 10 remaining sons-in-law and daughters-in-law who always regarded her with love and respect. She is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren, and 35 great-great grandchildren.Other surviving family members in Oklahoma are sister-in-law Mildred Pedigo, sister Edith Stites, and brothers Jessie, Clifton, Edward and Joe Parent. Her brother Luther Parent resides in California. Others remaining who will also miss her are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Bernice is predeceased by her husband Ralph Mitchell, their firstborn infant son Ralph Mitchell Jr., grandson Dewey Wayne Cotton Jr., great grandson Phillip Cunningham, and son-in-law Scott Meierhoff.Daughter Betty Cochran always had a special love and concern for Bernice. Daughter Oleta Allen was her caregiver for several years, and in her final days a home was provided for her by daughter and son-in-law Marie and Harry Lynch. We will always be grateful to them for giving so unselfishly so our mother could live out her life with love, dignity and respect.All our family contributed in our own ways to give back to Mom (Grandma) the loving care she gave to us throughout our lives.
