Following the last large earthquake, Fran moved to Prescott, Arizona. She soon grew tired of shoveling snow, and in 2002 she moved to Tucson, Arizona, where the climate is a little more friendly. In her retirement, she keeps busy with two women’s golf clubs.Fran is looking forward to briefly returning to Santa Paula to renew acquaintances with students and old friends. The Santa Paula Union High School Alumni Association will be holding their annual banquet at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel on Saturday, September 24.
The Santa Paula Union High School Alumni Association will be holding their annual banquet at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel on Saturday, September 24. All members of the Association and all classmates of the classes ending in the years of “0” and “5” whose addresses are on file have been mailed an invitation. In addition to saluting the classes of “0” and “5”, we are honoring former teacher Frances Meek.Frances Meek was born and raised in Oklahoma. She graduated from Guthrie High School and from Central State College (now known as Oklahoma Central University) with a B.S. in Physical Education.Fran taught Physical Education in elementary school in Oklahoma for three years before transferring to Ponca City Junior High School. She moved to Santa Paula in 1962, where she taught P.E. for 18 years. She was then made chair of the P.E. Department and two other departments.During her years of teaching, Frances completed her master’s degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and received her Administration Credential at Cal State University, Northridge. In 1979, she was hired at SPHS as the assistant principal (in charge of attendance and discipline), where she remained until her retirement in 1992.
