By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesSeveral recent incidents of street crime include one robbery where a shot fired hit the back of the intended victim’s cap before he was struck in the head with butt of the gun, according to a Santa Paula Police spokesman.Det. Sgt. Gary Marshall said that the incidents occurred in March and April and, except for the one incident involved “strong arm” tactics on the part of the suspects. The first incident was reported on April 11 when an intoxicated man who had just left Ruben’s Bar, located on East Harvard Boulevard at Garcia Street, was asked by several people - male and female - in a vehicle if he wanted a ride. The victim entered the vehicle and “While they were driving down Harvard Boulevard they took his wallet from him...when he started to protest they threw him out of the car on his head,” said Det. Sgt. Marshall.Luckily, the victim only received scrapes and bruises in the incident. On April 5 at about 9:35 p.m. a man was walking on the 100 block of South Olive Street when he was approached by three men.“One suspect showed him a gun that he had in his waistband, so the intended victim said he had no money and ran away...he described the suspects as three male juveniles,” Det. Sgt. Marshall said.
A similar incident occurred on April 22 at about 2 a.m. when SPPD officers were dispatched to a residence on North 13th Street.Officers were told at the residence by a man that he and his girlfriend had “Lo and behold, been coming home from Ruben’s Bar,” noted Det. Sgt. Marshall, when they were approached on the 1200 block of East Santa Clara Street by a vehicle that contained three male Hispanics.“The suspects pulled up and cut the couple off with the vehicle...two suspects jumped out, demanded the man’s wallet” and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, “One guy fired a round from a handgun and it hit the back of the victim’s hat...”The armed suspect then struck the male on the head with the butt of the gun.“They took his wallet,” containing $300 and a cell phone said Det. Sgt. Marshall. The victim’s injury was not serious.Det. Sgt.
