Ventura County Fair security agent Tom Powers, 58 of Ventura, assisted by a ‘good Samaritan’ fair guest, came to the rescue yesterday when an audience member at the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy concert went into cardiac arrest on Saturday night. The two heroes witnessed the victim falling into cardiac arrest and immediately applied CPR, rescue breathing and chest compression. Their quick actions kept the victim alive for the arrival of the Fair’s Medical and Safety Management Team; Glenda Mahan, 42 of Ojai and Tori Sutton, 26 of Ojai. Mahan and Sutton arrived on the scene and applied automated external defibrillators (AED), keeping the victim alive for the arrival of the Ventura County Fire and AMR, who continued the care with additional defibrillators and took him immediately to Community Memorial Hospital, where treatment continues this morning.“We are proud of our teams and our guests who don’t think twice when a visitor needs help,” said Fair CEO Barbara Boester-Quaid. “We hope this will be a message to everyone that when a person is in this kind of crisis, every second counts. Don’t hesitate to help a person in need.”
“AEDs, or Automated External Defibrillators can save your life and they are available for home use. We recommend the investment that may someday save your life or the life of a loved one,” said Rick Graves, team leader of the Ventura County Fair’s Medical and Safety Team.
