By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesAlthough the Santa Paula Society of the Arts has plenty on their palette with the upcoming 71st Annual Santa Paula Art & Photography Show, they are gearing up for a demonstration meeting as well as a limited engagement exhibit at Blanchard Community Library featuring outstanding member artists.According to Virginia Gunderson of the SPSA, the exhibit at the library - located at 119 N. 8th St., features Dorothy Orr, Betty White, Gene Marzec, Louise Saviers, Madeline Ricards, Sally Miller, Lynda Gruber, Jerry Zwers, and Gunderson’s own work. “As there will not be any particular theme, it will be an eclectic grouping and promises something for each taste,” noted Gunderson. The works by the SPSA artists will be on display until the 71st Annual Santa Paula Art & Photography Show debuts February 5.
Gunderson noted that the Society is featuring a watercolor demonstration by noted artist Ellen Montgomery at the January 13 general meeting, to be held in the SPSA Gallery at the Depot, located at the corner of 10th and Santa Barbara Streets. The meeting, which starts at 2 p.m. and features refreshments as well as prize drawings, is open to the public.Gunderson said that Sunday’s demonstration meeting will offer the society’s latest acquisition. “The viewing of the painting in progress will be seen much better as the Society has purchased an overhead mirror,” which allows a bird’s eye view of the demonstration artist’s tips and techniques.Members of the Society are especially requested to attend, as the long-awaited SPSA 2008 Membership Directory - a who’s who of notable artists throughout the Santa Clara River Valley as well as Ventura County - will be available to take home from the meeting.
