Varsity and JV boys both win on basketball court over Bishop

The Santa Paula JV and Varsity boys both pulled off victories over visiting Bishop Diego Friday evening. The JV won 36-32 and the varsity won their contest 57-54. The frosh team lost their game 56-45.The Santa Paula varsity got off to a great start, scoring 17 points in the first quarter. Everything seemed to come together for both defense and offense. The game was won at the free throw line. Bishop Diego made 5 of 15 shots or 33 percent. Santa Paula hit for 7 of 8 or 86 percent.High scorers for Santa Paula were: Daniel Pachuca 22, Andrew Jimenez 11, Gilbert Mora 8 and Anthony Del Rio 6.The Santa Paula JV Cardinals sported their new uniforms Friday as they played a hard-fought game.At the end of the third quarter the game was tied at 23 apiece. It was a defensive battle from start to finish. Santa Paula took the game by four points in the final quarter. A 20-foot jump shot by Antonio Rios with three seconds left clinched the win.
High scorers for Santa Paula were Antonio Rios with 12, Isaac Ek 8, Cesar Correa 7 and Martin Reyes 7.The Santa Paula frosh had too many turnovers and could never catch up to the Bishop team. High scorers for Santa Paula were: Taylor Casas 15, Hector Ayala 10, Joe Morales 8 and Eduardo Jimenez 7.
