A Santa Paula woman was Tased and arrested on multiple charges earlier this week after she allegedly ran from police following a brief car chase, solo crash and foot pursuit, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

The chase began in Oxnard about 11:26 p.m. Monday, August 4.Melissa Garcia, 21, was allegedly speeding and weaving while she traveled northbound on Rose Avenue when officers pulled her over. But when an officer walked up to Garcia’s vehicle, she allegedly sped off on Central Avenue at a high rate of speed.
After about a mile of pursuit, Garcia hit the brakes and tried to make a right turn at Santa Clara Avenue, but her vehicle skidded across the street and crashed into a concrete irrigation pipe. Garcia exited the vehicle and ran into a drainage ditch; as she tried to flee an officer shot her with a Taser.Garcia was arrested without further incident, although she was taken to an area hospital for treatment of a laceration to her hand she sustained in the drainage ditch. She was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of felony evading an officer and a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, and was jailed with a $60,000 bail.
