The Ventura County Board of Supervisors has appointed three new members to the Workforce Investment Board (WIB) of Ventura County. Joining the board for two-year terms are Captain David L. Fleisch, chief staff officer at U.S. Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC), Chris Kimball, Ph.D., president of California Lutheran University (CLU), and Stanley Mantooth, Ventura County Superintendent of Schools. “We are fortunate to have these distinguished professionals join the WIB during such challenging economic times, “says Alex Teague, senior vice president of Limoneira Company and WIB chair.“Education is a real asset in the competitive job market. The national unemployment rate among college graduates is only 3.1 percent, compared to the overall unemployment rate of 6.7 percent,” says Cheryl Moore, executive director of the Ventura County WIB. “Chris Kimball and Stan Mantooth will bring an education perspective to the WIB and help us continue the strong commitment to youth and adult education programs.”Moore also notes that NBVC creates or supports about 4.6 percent of all county jobs. “Working with Captain Fleisch will expand workforce awareness and opportunities to prepare for NBVC-related civilian jobs.”Members of the WIB include leaders from the business sector, local economic development, education, labor, government, and community-based organizations.
