By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesTwo juveniles who went on a vandalism spree causing more than $5,000 in damages to an area school classroom Saturday were arrested with the help of a concerned citizen. According to Santa Paula Police Sergeant Jimmy Fogata, the December 20 incident was reported to the SPPD at approximately 12:01 p.m.“Police responded to the area of 1150 Saticoy Street, Barbara Webster School, for a report of a vandalism that had just occurred,” said Fogata. The citizen told officers the vandalism had just occurred in a classroom of Barbara Webster School. Officers found the classroom and discovered the juveniles had caused an estimated $5,000 - or more - in damage.SPPD officers also “received information from the citizen reporting the crime that he was following the suspects, who were described as two male juveniles” wearing black hooded sweatshirts.
As officers were checking the area, a “juvenile subject was observed running from the location and was quickly apprehended in the parking lot of 431 Ojai Road.” The second subject - who was still being followed by the reporting party - was located and taken into custody on the corner of High and Sycamore streets.Fogata said the damage to the classroom was significant: “They broke into all the cabinets, damaged furniture, threw bottled paint all around in the room, all over the room. They damaged supplies, wrote on the walls... they just trashed the room.”Both boys, he added, are former Barbara Webster students now attending Isbell Middle School. Fogata said when he apprehended one of the boys, he found the boy was in possession of items taken from the school classroom. There was no sign of forced entry into the classroom, Fogata added. The two juveniles - Fogata said each is 12 years old - were placed under arrest for felony vandalism, burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime. They were then lodged in the Ventura County Juvenile Hall.
