Santa Paula Police are investigating the stabbing of a 17-year-old boy just after midnight Friday that left the youth with life-threatening wounds.

According to SPPD Sergeant Jimmy Fogata, the attack occurred July 30 at approximately 12:01 a.m.

SPPD officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Larmon Loop - located off Santa Ana Street near Palm Avenue - regarding a fight in progress. “While officers were enroute to the location, Santa Paula Police Dispatch received additional information that one of the involved parties had been stabbed,” and Fogata said when officers arrived, “a 17-year-old juvenile was located with several stab wounds to the chest area.”

Santa Paula Fire EMTs and AMR Paramedics treated the unidentified juvenile on scene prior to his being transported to a local hospital for emergency surgery. Fogata said the juvenile - whose name is being withheld due to his age - is currently listed in critical but stable condition. The boy was stabbed numerous times in the chest, and Fogata said one of the thrusts “was just a centimeter” from the victim’s heart.

According to SPPD Lieutenant Carlos Juarez, although stabilized the victim’s condition remains “guarded.... He received pretty severe stab wounds” that delayed detectives from being able to interview the victim.

“Witnesses are not being very cooperative at this time,” and Juarez said investigators are still trying to determine if the attack was gang-related. The weapon has not been located, he added, and the victim was not a resident of the immediate area. “He was there with a group of people and another group came up” and, Juarez said, there was a “fight and he was stabbed.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Santa Paula Police Department, 525-4474. If the caller would prefer to remain anonymous, they can call the SPPD recorded Tip Hotline, 933-4253-1-#.
