Santa Paula Police Department

Santa Paula Police are investigating a shooting Monday night that left one area man wounded in an incident police said appears to be gang related.

According to SPPD Senior Detective Ken Clark, the incident occurred January 7 at about 8:41 p.m. when officers responded to the 100 block of East Ventura Street for a report of shots being fired. A witness told officers they heard four gunshots and observed four male subjects, two armed with handguns and wearing dark clothing, fleeing toward Ventura Street.

Although there were no subjects in the area, Clark said the officers found an “extensive blood trail” which led to the shooting scene. The incident occurred in a condominium complex, and Clark said the shooting scene was “in the driveway part between the garages” for residential units.

Shortly after arriving on scene, police received a report a gunshot victim was being admitted to the Santa Paula Emergency Room with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Clark said the unidentified 31-year-old victim had been struck by gunfire in the lower body and been “dropped off at the hospital” for treatment.

The man is a resident of Santa Paula, but Clark it has not yet been determined if he was a resident of the condominium complex where the shooting occurred. Clark added it “appears” the shooting was gang related, and the investigation is continuing.

Clark is asking anyone with information that could help in the investigation to call him at 525-4474 ext 277. If the caller would prefer to remain anonymous, they can call the SPPD recorded Tip Hotline, 933-4253-1-#.
