Santa Paula Theater Center will hold auditions for “Arcadia” by Tom Stoppard on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 2nd and 3rd, from 7 to 9 p.m., with callbacks July 6th, 12 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Santa Paula Theater Center, 125 S. 7th Street.

Auditions are open and do not require appointment.

“Arcadia” will be directed by Eric J. Stein, with Leticia Mattson producing. “Arcadia” is a contemporary realist play with elements of both comedy and drama. Many believe it to be the most significant work by one of the most important modern playwrights in the English language.

The action of the play all takes place in one large room of a stately English manor, but shuttles between the first years of the 19th century and the present. Inhabitants and guests of the Croom family strutting about in coattails and gowns give way to modern men and women in shirtsleeves and sneakers, then back again... culminating in a final magical scene in which characters from both times move about the scene blissfully unaware of their worlds intertwining.

Arcadia explores the complex relationships between past and present, order and chaos, speculation and knowledge, all the while keeping us moored to the befuddled inanity and simple grace that is the human condition.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Please bring a current resume and headshot if available. For advance perusal copy of the script, contact producer Leticia Mattson at LPMattson@verizon.net or phone 805-878-5201.
