The Santa Paula Society of the Arts summer’s hiatus is over and the artists are coming back with a sparkle... literally and figuratively!

According to Virginia Gunderson of the SPSA, regular meetings of the society of the arts will resume September 21 with a special demonstration by artist Sparkle Taylor, known for “sculptures and constructions,” as well as fine plein air paintings.

The meeting will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Depot Upper Gallery, located at the corner of East Santa Barbara and 10th streets.

Gunderson noted as always the free meeting is open to members of the public; you don’t have to belong to the SPSA to attend.

Taylor’s “Extensive experience and varied talents allow her to communicate creativity in many media,” said Gunderson.

“Sparkle began her professional life as a graphic designer and art director, has worked with paint, clay, cloth, fiber and metal,” as well as 3D.

“As an always avid camper and hiker,” Gunderson said Taylor “was a natural for plein air painting.”

Taylor has a plein air technique all her own with varied outdoor scenes dominated by color and bold brush strokes.

Her extensive experience and varied talents allow her to communicate creatively in many media: Taylor began her professional life as a graphic designer and art director in Los Angeles, while always being involved as a fine artist and artisan on her own time. Not only has she worked with paint, clay, cloth, fiber, and metal, she continues to work and teach in these arts today.

Taylor is highly sought for plein air paintings but also designs logos, websites and media kits for business; she also can create costumes!

The Santa Paula Society of the Arts also has a Gift Shop at the historic Depot where small paintings, custom greeting cards and magnets, sculpture and other unique handmade items created by SPSA artists are available for sale.

The Depot Gallery and Gift Shop are open Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. other times by appointment.
