A Santa Paula man was arrested Saturday when he showed up at the police station to report his car has been stolen.

Santa Paula Police Senior Officer Ken Clark said the incident started at approximately 5:07 p.m. when a report of a car in a ditch was reported in the area of Todd and Calpipe roads, on the southwest side of the city.

Upon arrival, Santa Paula Police and Santa Paula Fire personnel found a black Chevrolet Tahoe on its side in a ditch.

No one could be located at the scene of the overturned vehicle.

“The driver,” Sergio Garcia, 19, of Santa Paula, “came into the police department later to report his vehicle had been stolen,” but Clark said, “Through the investigation police determined he was filing a false police report and was arrested for such.”

The investigation said Clark is continuing.
