Santa Paula Police are asking for the public’s help to provide information about a stabbing that occurred last week in the city.

According to Sgt. Jeremy Watson the incident occurred April 28 at approximately 3:35 p.m. when the SPPD was notified that a fight was occurring in the area of Santa Maria Street and Laurie Lane.

Officers responded but when they arrived on scene “The fight was over and all parties left the area…”

Less than 20 minutes later, at about 3:52 p.m., police received a report of a stabbing victim at Santa Paula Hospital.

When officers arrived at the hospital they were told the victim — a resident of Oxnard, 28 — had been transported immediately to the Ventura County Medical Center Trauma Unit for evaluation.

Watson noted that, “During the investigation, it was determined that the initial fight call and stabbing were related,” and more information was received as to a possible motive.

Police also learned that the victim and the attacker were related.

Based on the information received the SPPD obtained a warrant that was served by the department’s SWAT team on April 30 at about 7 a.m., but no arrests were made.

Watson said the victim was treated and released from VCMC after being treated for his wounds, which were found to be minor.

At this time the investigation is ongoing.

Watson said anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the SPPD Investigations Unit, 805-525-4474.
