Al Williams, a Tulare County citrus grower, was elected to a third term as chairman of the Board of Directors of Sunkist Growers following the cooperative’s 108th annual meeting February 6 in Ventura, attended by nearly a thousand growers.
Al Williams, a Tulare County citrus grower, was elected to a third term as chairman of the Board of Directors of Sunkist Growers following the cooperative’s 108th annual meeting February 6 in Ventura, attended by nearly a thousand growers.Williams joined the Sunkist Board in 1988 and has served as vice chairman since 1997. He is president of the Visalia Fruit Exchange and chairman and president of Visalia Citrus Association and the Visalia packing Group, which owns three citrus packinghouses. He manages his family’s citrus and olive orchards, which were first planted in the San Joaquin Valley in 1914.Elected to serve as vice chairmen for 2002 are Allen Pinkerton of Ventura, William E. Chaney of Sun City, Arizona, and Russell Katayama of Orosi, California.Pinkerton is the director of Limoneira Co. and Saticoy Lemon Association. He also served as director of Alta Mutual Water Co., and Farmers Irrigation Co. He joined the Sunkist Board of Directors in 1996.Chaney is president of Marlin Packing Company, Marlin Ranching Company and The Marlin Group, Inc. He is also vice president of the Southern Arizona Citrus Exchange and vice-chairman of Agricultural Producers. He is a 14-year member of the Sunkist Board.Katayama is general manager of Katayama and Sons, Inc. farming operation. He was elected to the Sunkist Board in 1997 and is chairman of Klink Citrus.
