Woman killed in Monday morning Highway 126 accident

Authorities are still trying to reach the relatives of an unidentified woman killed early Monday on Highway 126 when she lost control of her vehicle and plunged into a drainage ditch.

By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesAuthorities are still trying to reach the relatives of an unidentified woman killed early Monday on Highway 126 when she lost control of her vehicle and plunged into a drainage ditch.According to CHP Officer Steven Reid, the accident occurred July 8, at about 7:33 a.m. when the woman’s 1990 Honda, traveling in the westbound fast lane about a mile east of Willard Road, unexpectedly veered to the right.“The vehicle struck a guardrail, went into a drainage ditch, overturned several times,” and finally came to a rest when it struck a utility pole, said Officer Reid.“The female driver was declared deceased by paramedics,” said Officer Reid.
The Santa Paula Fire Department also responded to the accident that closed the slow lane of westbound Highway 126 for about an hour and a half although the fast lane remained open.“At this point in the initial phases of the investigation we don’t have a lot,” Officer Reid noted at press time.Senior Deputy Medical Examiner Craig Stevens said relatives of the woman were still being located for notification purposes; her identity will not be released until family members learn of her death.It appears that the woman, who Stevens said is 60 years old, died from blunt force head injuries.
