The list of those being remembered or honored will again be published on an ongoing basis in the Santa Paula Times, a “very strong supporter of Hospice and ‘Light Up A Life,’ “ Barringer noted.Hospice of Santa Clara Valley was started in 1980 and serves Santa Paula, Fillmore, Piru and Saticoy.Hospice provides to the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of those with life-limiting illnesses, and their children. Hospice goals are to maintain the patient pain free in their own home.All Hospice services are without charge and include practical and emotional support, counseling, social services, chaplain if desired, and trained volunteers to assist with respite care, transportation or whatever is helpful to the family. The “Light Up A Life” addressing party was the speediest yet, according to Cathy Barringer, who noted that supporters of the Hospice of Santa Clara Valley addressed, stuffed and “starred” over 1,600 invitations to the annual holiday fundraiser.
By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesThe “Light Up A Life” addressing party was the speediest yet, according to Cathy Barringer, who noted that supporters of the Hospice of Santa Clara Valley addressed, stuffed and “starred” over 1,600 invitations to the annual holiday fundraiser.“It was the fastest we’ve ever done it,” said Barringer, president of the Hospice of Santa Clara Valley Board of Directors. Cathy and Carl Barringer hosted the addressing party which drew over 50 Hospice supporters to “lend a hand” to the effort, which resulted in 1,669 invitations being readied.“We probably have one of the best mailing lists in town,” said Dottie Armbruster, a Hospice board director.The annual “Light Up A Life” has become a holiday tradition: this year the Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Nov. 30th at the corner of 8th and Main streets in the parking lot of United Water Conservation District.The 5 p.m. Tree Lighting Ceremony will feature the Santa Paula Community Choir, star cookies, hot cider and the reading of the names of those remembered or honored by a star.The towering tree outside the UWCD building will be strung with lights, each sponsored by a $10 donation in memory of a friend or loved one, or to honor a special person or group.
