Fillmore JV slips past Santa Paula to end season

The Cardinal JV squad met up with Fillmore in their final game of the season and came away with a 20-13 loss. Fillmore took a 13-0 lead in the first half, but the Cards came back in the second half to score two touchdowns, but an 80-yard run for a TD by Fillmore in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach for Santa Paula. Travis McClain (#5) had the QB duties for Santa Paula, until he was hurt midway through the third quarter. Freshman Spencer Fox (#1) finished the game for the Cards.Santa Paula was hampered by the loss of 10 players two weeks earlier, reportedly mostly because of poor grades.Fillmore came on strong early in the contest, scoring their first TD on their second possession. The Flashes came out in the second quarter and ended up punting on a fourth down, but Santa Paula fumbled the ball and Fillmore recovered. After a drive downfield, Fillmore scored their second TD.Santa Paula took the kickoff to start the second half. Bobby Perez (#10) carried the ball to the 28-yard-line. McClain and Blake Cowan (#44) moved the ball to the Fillmore 31-yard-line and Cowan took it into the end zone for the Cards first touchdown. Neither side scored again in the third quarter and McClain was taken out of the game after being hit as he carried the ball.
Perez scored the Cardinals second TD after he recovered a Fillmore fumble and ran 48 yards for the score. The point after kick by Matthew Wilson (#3) gave Santa Paula their final point of the game.Fillmore sealed their win with an 80-yard run from the kickoff and the PAT was good. The fourth quarter ended with neither side scoring again.
