Mabel Ponce state finalist Miss California American Teen

Mabel Ponce, age 17, daughter of Maria T. Ponce, has been chosen as a State Finalist in the Miss California American Teen Pageant to be held May 24 and 25 at the LAX Marriott, Los Angeles. The winner of the pageant will receive a $500 cash award, the official crown and banner, bouquet of flowers, and travel allowance and sponsor fee to compete in the national pageant. Pageants are held for the state to include all girls ages 3 through 17. Thousands of dollars in cash awards, scholarships, trophies and prizes will be awarded during the state pageant weekend. According to pageant officials, since 1983 the American Coed Pageant System has awarded more than $11 million in scholarships and awards to deserving young ladies.Miss Ponce’s activities include Key Club, Human Services Academy, and ASPIRE. She also enjoys reading and listening to music.The pageants are for “Tomorrow’s Leaders.” They are open to girls between the ages of 3 and 17, with goals and dreams based on inner beauty as well as poise, appearance, and an “All-American spirit for family, fun and friends.” Emphasis is placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning new skills, learning good attitudes about competition, and setting and achieving personal goals. The pageant seeks to recognize the accomplishments of each girl while encouraging her to set goals for the future.
