By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesA nice young couple in love was the way that many people described Adrianna Meza and Armando Cauich. And just what the future held for the Santa Paulans will never be known: Adrianna and Armando were brutally shot and murdered in bed on October 14, 1993.Santa Paula Police Commander Mark Hanson said that investigators know who committed the shocking double-murder, but not where he is.“We figured he went to Mexico,” Cmdr. Hanson said of Everado Meza Alamillo, the chief suspect in the double-homicide.Alamillo was the ex-husband of Adrianna and the father of their then 3-year-old daughter, found in bed with the slain couple when a friend went to check on their whereabouts.Adrianna was just 21 and Armando 22 when they were murdered. Highly respected and popular employees of an area pizza parlor, the couple was discussing marriage. Armando was very fond of Adrianna’s little girl, now about 13 years old.Santa Paula police investigators are still working the case, although “there’s not a heck of a lot of work to do. . .the suspect is gone, the case is filed,” said Cmdr. Hanson.
If the SPPD could get any information on Alamillo’s whereabouts, “we’d work with the authorities,” such as the FBI or DEA, to arrest him on the charges. There is little doubt that Alamillo was the one that murdered pretty Adrianna and husky Armando: Not only did he have a reputation for a hot temper and jealousy, “His fingerprints were on a beer bottle that he left at the scene,” where the shootings took place.“The child was in bed with the couple when they were shot to death, a real cold-blooded act on the part of Alamillo. Adrianna and Armando were a nice couple from all accounts,” noted Cmdr. Hanson. At one point, former SPPD Chief Walt Adair tried to get a television show specializing in finding fugitives interested in the case, to no avail.Anyone with information should call the SPPD at 525-4474 or the SPPD recorded Tip Hotline at 933-4253-1-#.
