By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesThe results of a city funded poll to see how voters would react to a funding measure on the November ballot will be revealed at a special City Council meeting Monday night. The June 14 meeting at City Hall Council Chambers will start at 6:30 p.m.“Two representatives of the research company who did the poll will be there to present their findings,” said City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz. The council had approved the pollster to gauge how spending-friendly Santa Paulans would be in November if proceeds of a tax or assessment were used to beef up public safety. The $20,460 contract for Godbe Research & Analysis of Half Moon Bay was to perform the public opinion research with 400 of the city’s registered voters.
Godbe had bilingual opinion pollsters survey the registered voters on their attitudes regarding the importance of police and fire services to determine perceived and specific needs that would find favor with voters as well as voters’ willingness to pay for improvement. A method of collection and a spending level that meets with voters’ approval were also poll goals.Once the council hears the results of the poll they were asked to review the text of a proposed public safety financing initiative. Also on the council agenda Monday is a proposal to close the doors of City Hall on alternate Fridays and whether or not the council will add $10,000 to the $5,000 it already gives in support of the Heritage Valley Tourism Bureau. The council will also receive an update on the proposed annexation of the Santa Paula Fire Department into the Ventura County Fire District. The meeting will be broadcast live on cable Channel 10.
