District Superintendent Dr. Luis Villegas said the purpose of the survey was to get a feeling about how parents felt about the issue. In addition to the survey the district held a meeting on the subject which was attended by 27 parents.Tammy Bell, who has a son attending Isbell Middle School and a daughter at Bedell School, is not happy about the prospect of losing the bus transportation. Losing the bus service would impact her daughter’s ability to keep going to Bedell, as well as affect her day care after school. “Her only source of day care is at the “Kid’s Club” which the district provides and I pay for,” said Bell. “She is bused from Bedell School to Blanchard for the day care. If there’s no bus what am I going to do for day care?”Trustee Tony Perez said he didn’t want to see any cuts in bus service this year. The board directed staff to come back in October and to meet with parents again between now and then to further discuss the issue.

The Santa Paula Elementary School District is investigating the possibility of doing away with school bus transportation for students.

WilsonSanta Paula TimesThe Santa Paula Elementary School District is investigating the possibility of doing away with school bus transportation for students.The district sent out survey forms to parents from each of the six elementary schools, asking if their children would continue to attend the same school, even though the buses no longer ran or if they would send their children to the nearest neighborhood school. Of the surveys sent out they got a 30 percent return. Of that number only 11 total from all the schools indicated they would send their children to neighborhood schools.
