Weekend crashes: Another Hwy. 126 fatality, S. Mountain Rd. hit-and-run

Details are sketchy about a felony hit-and-run that occurred Saturday evening on South Mountain Road that left one man with minor injuries and the separate accident on Highway 126 that killed a woman on Sunday.

Ewan of Castaic after the motorcycle she was driving went out of control on Highway 126 east or Pyle Road near Fillmore at about 10:30 a.m.Ewan was traveling 40 to 50 mph westbound on Highway 126 – the scene of numerous fatal crashes throughout the year – when, for an unknown reason, she lost control of the motorcycle.The motorcycle veered off the highway toward the right shoulder, went up a dirt embankment, rolled over and ejected Ewan.Ewan received major head injuries and was transported by Mercy Air Ambulance helicopter to Ventura County Medical Center where she died.
Saturday’s incident occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. on South Mountain Road, one mile east of Santa Paula, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Smith.“The victim suffered minor injuries,” after his Oldsmobile sedan was struck by a black, Pontiac Trans Am.The Oldsmobile driven by Mario Botello, 42 of Thousand Oaks, sustained major damage in the collision and the suspect fled the scene, Officer Smith noted.Both accidents are still being investigated.
