Barron’s family, including his then toddler daughter and twin infant sons, was inside the home at the time of the shooting. Police detained members of Barron’s family as well as several friends for questioning while other family members took the children from the residence. None of those detained were charged.Barron, who has an extensive criminal record, was critically injured and remained hospitalized for months. The shooting left Barron a quadriplegic.Barron is now being tried in a Ventura County Superior Court for charges stemming from the April 2002 incident. He is facing charges of brandishing a gun in the presence of a police officer that led to the shooting, and for the sales of methamphetamine, according to SPPD Det. Marshall.The SPPD, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney’s Office conducted the investigation into the shooting. Law enforcement shootings in the city are rare, and the shooting of Barron was the first in Santa Paula involving a DEA agent.

An area man shot in the head by a Drug Enforcement Agency agent in a 2002 incident that occurred outside his home is on trial for charges related to the incident, according to a Santa Paula Police spokesman.

Edward Barron, now 25, is also being tried for charges related to the sales of methamphetamine that were being investigated at the time of the shooting, according to Santa Paula Police Department Det. Gary Marshall.Barron received a massive gunshot wound to his head outside his home on the 600 block of West Santa Barbara Street during a joint raid by Drug Enforcement Agency agents and Santa Paula police that occurred in April 2002.After an ongoing narcotics investigation, Santa Paula and DEA investigators dressed in tactical equipment went to Barron’s residence to arrest him on multiple charges related to suspected drug sales. The law enforcement team had surrounded the house when Barron, who had been standing in the driveway when officers arrived on scene, headed for the front door of the house and allegedly pulled a handgun from the waistband of his pants, pointing it at the officers. That’s when gunshots erupted and an unidentified DEA agent shot Barron in the head.
