The 2005 Santa Paula Society of the Arts Membership Show is now on display on the Shively Memorial Wall at Blanchard Community Library, 119 N. 8th Street.“It is a varied collection to suit everyone’s taste,” said SPSA President Virginia Gunderson. “We not only have oils, watercolors and acrylics, but also some very accomplished photographers” whose work is exhibit at the library for this special show that will be displayed until October 27.Gunderson noted that some of the area’s most talented artists are also notable teachers who are featured in the exhibit. “Sally Miller of Ventura, who has plein air students that go out with her to paint on site, and Dorothy Orr of Santa Paula, an art professor at Ventura Community College who also has a class of watercolorists who go out with her to paint on location. Judith Klement,” also a city resident, “teaches at various sites in Ventura County for the Ventura Unified School Districts Continuing Adult Education Classes.”
Gunderson added that anyone interested in further information on the art classes taught by Miller, Orr and Klement would be able to sign a special page in the exhibit Guest Book to receive more information. Now planning the annual Santa Paula Art & Photography Show - the oldest juried exhibit in the state - SPSA members are also looking forward to launching classes for all levels of skill at the SPSA Depot Gallery after the building’s restoration is completed, “Probably after the holidays,” Gunderson noted.Artists featured in the SPSA Membership show include Gail Pidduck, Lynda Gruber, Joan Monroe, Ken Peterson, George Appel, Dorothy Orr, Cynthia Davis, Sally Miller, Iris Wolf, Judith Klement, Elisabeth McGinn, Chris Lemon, Barbara Curtis, Pam Shelley, Eugene Marzec, Judy Dressler, Martha Binsley, Wana Klasen, Pat Lemmon and Virginia Gunderson.Blanchard Community Library is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is closed Friday.
