A wedding is always a joyous event, but imagine nuptials where there are almost one dozen happy couples surrounded by family and loved ones! Such an event occurred at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, which was turned into a sea of white wedding dresses when on January 21 couples renewed their vows or - in the case of two couples - were married in a joint ceremony.

The eleven couples exchanged vows in front of family members and friends who witnessed the joyous event, conducted by Father Charles Lueras assisted by Deacon Al Guilin.

Many people who attended the ceremony were dressed in their finest, and there was no concern whether or not one should sit on the bride’s side or the groom’s. Rather it was finding parking within a two-block radius of the historic church that many found the most challenging.

Deacon Guilin noted most of the couples “have been married anywhere from two, three years to 20 years or more and are renewing their vows in the church. All the families are really enjoying it.”

Some brides were dressed in bright colors, while others opted for traditional white dresses with trains carried into the historic church by attendants. The one thing they all had in common were the smiles shared with their husbands and families who celebrated at the church following the event.

Deacon Guilin said the church stages such large weddings each year and all couples - whether already married and seeking to renew their vows or being joined in holy matrimony to begin their lifetime of shared happiness - are welcome to participate.
