JV girls outshoot visiting Golden Valley

Varsity comes close, but falls behind

The Lady Cardinal JV basketball team played hard and took a well-deserved victory over the visiting Carpinteria Warriors last week. The Santa Paula girls came away with a 34-23 win. The Cards jumped off to a 10-3 first quarter lead and held the advantage throughout the game.Lanejia Delgadillo led the scoring for Santa Paula with 10 points. She also had 6 steals. Kathleen Salas followed with 6 points, 10 steals and 1 rebound. Kim Espinoza had 6 and Jazmine Rodriguez had 4 points.The varsity also played well, but lost their game 43-37.Santa Paula was ahead 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and led by one point at the half. By the end of three quarters the game was tied 26-26. Carpinteria pulled ahead in the fourth quarter and the Lady Cards couldn’t catch up.
Nicole Sliger led Santa Paula with 10 points. Bianca Castillo and Erika Mora each had 9 points and Carissa Jimenez hit for 6.The JV girls play at home this Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Malibu. The varsity travels to Malibu for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
