Beating Oaks Christian has proved elusive for the Santa Paula varsity boys’ basketball team this year. The Lions beat the Cards for the second time this season, taking a 48-39 win last week, leaving Santa Paula with a second place finish in the Frontier League. Second place is still good enough to go on to the CIF playoffs tonight (See separate story). The Cardinals pretty much matched the Lions point-for-point in the first quarter and out shot Oaks Christian in the third quarter. The Lions held a 21-15 edge at the half and the Cards almost made up the deficit after the break. They fell behind again in the final quarter and the clock ran out before they could catch up.Chepe Lara was the high scorer for the Cardinals with 24 points. Andrew Carrera had 7 points and Ben Kolbeck hit the basket for 5.
