Elvia RomeroElvia Romero of Santa Paula passed away on Saturday, March 11 at her home. She was born on September 14 in Santa Paula and was a life long Ventura County resident.Elvia was a student, and a church leader for youth and children.She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Luis and Amelia (Connie) Romero; grandparents, Agustin and Inez Arellano (Santa Paula) and Luis and Mariana Romero (Ensenada); and brother-in-law Juan Avila.She is survived by her brother, Luis (wife Otilia) Romero; sisters, Connie (husband Juan) Romero-Avila, Sylvia Romero, Annette Romero, Ana Marie (husband Eddie) Romero-Arballo, Lisa (husband Esteban) Contreras-Zamora, and Cynthia Carrillo; cousins, Iginio Romero and Lalo Alvarado; nieces and nephews, Vanessa Romero, Luis Romero, Jr., Lalito Alvarado, Arlet Alvarado, Cesar Alvarado and Carlos Alvarado; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and loved ones; and godchildren Alvie Thompson and Wendy Alvarado.Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 16 at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 17 at First United Methodist Church, Pastor Carlos Rodriguez officiating.Burial will be at Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Lily Garcia Hernandez
Lily G. Hernandez went home to be with our heavenly father on Friday, March 10, 2006 at the age of 77, after a courageous battle with heart disease. She was born in Santa Paula on August 3, 1928 and was a lifelong resident of Santa Paula.Lily loved the Lord and expressed her love by singing in the church choir and was a faithful member of the Legion of Mary for many years. She not only sang for choir, but also shared her love of music with her husband, children and grandchildren.Lily’s joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and brothers and sisters. Lily lived life to the fullest with a song in her heart and a smile on her face. She will truly be missed.She was preceded in death by her parents, Gabriel and Antonia Garcia, brothers Joe and John Garcia, and son Simon R. Hernandez, Jr.Lily is survived by her husband of 56 years, Simon R. Hernandez, Sr.; children, Daniel G. Hernandez and wife Anna, Enriquetta Robert and husband Gerald, Herminia Marquez and husband Raul, Manuel G. Hernandez and wife Sylvia, Leonard G. Hernandez and wife Gloria, and Matias G. Hernandez and wife Maria; brothers and sisters, Daria Ayon and husband Trinidad, Julio Garcia and wife Margaret, Manuel Garcia and wife Raquel, Tony Garcia and wife Mary Anna, Marie Delia Arroyo and husband Jess, and Erlinda Garcia; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 15 at Skillin-Carroll’s Chapel. Rosary is Wednesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
