Carrillo and Sliger named Santa Paula Athletes of the Year

Johnny Carrillo and Nicole Sliger were recently introduced as the male and female athletes of the year for Santa Paula High School at the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame awards dinner. One interesting fact about both SPHS graduates is they both plan to major in Criminal Justice at Ventura College. Carrillo hopes to become a police officer and Sliger wants a career as a probation officer.Carrillo has two varsity letters in baseball and one in basketball. In baseball he was named to the All-League team two times, the All-County team two times and the All-CIF team twice. He holds the Cardinal’s stolen base record with 25.In basketball he was chosen First Team, All-Frontier League. He has also volunteered as an umpire for the Santa Paula Little League.Sliger has four varsity letters, two in basketball and two in softball. As a softball player she was the Lady Cardinals’ MVP twice and was named to the Frontier League All-League team two times. She won the Golden Glove award, was the top homerun hitter in the county as a junior and was second in stolen bases.
In basketball she won the Coaches Award and was team MVP.Sliger was a youth basketball coach, basketball referee and T-Ball umpire. She participated in the Santa Paula Beautiful Campaign and the Relay For Life.
