J. Douglas Lazenby J. Douglas Lazenby passed away on August 4, 2006 at his home in Santa Paula at the age of 82.Doug was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 19, 1923, and graduated from Payson High School, and then from Brigham Young University in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in drama and English. At one time, Doug held a Utah State record in the shot put.In November 1942, while serving in the Navy, Doug married his high school sweetheart, Dune Marie Patten, in the Salt Lake Temple. Shortly after their marriage, Doug served on a submarine tender in the South Pacific.They moved to California in 1950, where Doug began his teaching career at Cabrillo Middle School in Ventura. He taught there for two years, and then transferred to Santa Paula High School, retiring in 1984. During his 32 years at SPHS, he taught a variety of subjects, including drama, English, tennis, baseball and drivers training. He was swimming pool manager during the summer months.Doug is survived by Dune, his wife of 63 years, and their three children, son Steven and wife Susan of Santa Paula, and daughters Diana Etchells and husband Jim of Acton, CA and Luana Lindsey and husband Dean, also of Santa Paula. They are blessed with 12 grandchildren, Tressa (Mike) Saviers of Fillmore, Robert (Becky) Etchells of Kansas, Dustin (Kasea) Lazenby of Santa Paula, Holly (Craig) Butler of Santa Paula, Marine (Steve) Jenkins of Fillmore, Marianne (Jeff) Meeks of Arizona, Bree (Chip) Watson of Santa Paula, Susanna (Jeff) Dottl of Ventura, Larin (David) Knapp of Arizona, and Gerry Lindsey, Matthew Lindsey and Kiely Lazenby, all of Santa Paula. Their 12 grandchildren have further blessed them with 20 great-grandchildren and counting.Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Orpha, and by two brothers and three sisters, and is survived by one sister, Fern (Norm) Toombs of Idaho, and two brothers, Ted (Karen) Lazenby and Virgil (Maurine) Lazenby, both of Utah.Doug loved to be with his family, whether it was at Disneyland, the beach, or just for family get-togethers. His hobbies included fishing, reading, woodworking, writing poetry, telling jokes, trying to figure out personalized license plates, and watching sporting events either on TV or in person.
Doug was an active member of the LDS church his entire life.Graveside services will be held at the Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery on Friday, August 11 at 4 p.m., with Steve Lazenby officiating.For Everlasting Memories of J.
