Mrs. Gallardo was born in Michoacan, Mexico, and moved to Nebraska with her family at a young age, then to California.Rosa was a homemaker for her husband and children throughout the years. She enjoyed her family very much, and they always came first.Mrs. Gallardo was preceded in death by her parents, Rafael and Esther Navarro; her husband of 41 years, Joe “Jose” Gallardo; one son, Robert Gallardo; and three sisters.Mrs. Gallardo is survived by her daughter Lupe (husband Robert) Rojo; sons, Joe Gallardo and John (wife Mary) Gallardo; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 18 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 19 at 10 a.m. at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Billie E. Benton
Former Santa Paula resident Billie E. Benton, 97, passed away June 30, 2006 in Lancaster, California. She was born August 4, 1909 in Visalia.Billie married Hayden W. Benton on August 7, 1928 in Visalia. They lived in Porterville until 1952, when they were transferred to Santa Paula (with Edison Co.). Billie remained in Santa Paula until 1996, when she entered the Antelope Valley Care Center in Lancaster.Billie taught china painting classes for 25 years. She held classes in Ojai, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and in her own studio in Santa Paula.She was an active member and elder in the First Christian Church in Santa Paula, a member of the Palmleaf Chapter Eastern Star #114 in Porterville since 1944, and active in the local AARP chapter and with the Food Share programs. She was a long time member and worker at the Society of the Arts gallery in the Santa Paula Depot.Billie was preceded in death by her husband Hayden in 1966, her daughter Haydene Allred in 2005, and her son-in-law Bill Lund in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Lund of Lancaster; grandchildren, Jim, Richard Kim, Dean, Barbara, Denise and Shawnee; 10 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 21 at Santa Paula Cemetery.August (Gus) WalkerGus Walker, 92, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2006 in Ojai. Gus was born on May 15, 1914 in Jarbalo, Kansas.As a young man he moved to California; and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served his country during World War II. He was a member of the 55th Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) stationed in New Guinea in the South Pacific.After the war he settled in Ventura County, where he resided for over 60 years. He was a plumber for Oxnard Plumbing and Heating Company for 25 years, but his true passion was his beloved ranch in Wheeler Canyon, Santa Paula, where he enjoyed raising cattle, growing crops and hunting with his dogs. He would tell his family that life on the ranch was like having Christmas every day.He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Mosbarger Walker; brothers Nelson Walker and Jim Todd; sisters Fern Johnson, Leota Rioux and Marie Todd; and stepson Lee LaCasse. He is survived by his son Tom (Barbara) Walker of Whispering Pines, North Carolina; brother Lloyd (Caretta) Walker of Deer Park, Washington; six grandchildren, Greg Walker, Denise Dworsak, Paul Moore, and Robin, David and Lorrie LaCasse; and many nieces and nephews.A graveside service will be held at Bardsdale Cemetery in Fillmore on Wednesday, October 18 at 10 a.m.
