“Nuncrackers” holiday spectacular at SPTC

The Santa Paula Theater Center closes their 20th Anniversary Season with the hysterical holiday romp “Nuncrackers: The Nunsense Christmas Musical”, which opened November 17 at the Santa Paula Theater Center, 125 South 7th Street. This is the fifth in a series of five productions presented this season by the award-winning local drama troupe. Dan Goggin’s holiday musical featuring the zany antics of the little Sisters of Hoboken plays through December 17. Tickets are available by calling 525-4645.The Little Sisters of Hoboken are putting on a live television broadcast direct from their new studio. Complete with a mini version of “The Nutcracker”, this show promises to be a shining performance for the sisters until disaster strikes and things begin falling apart on live TV. Full of singing and dancing nuns, lots of sight gags, and guffaws galore, “Nuncrackers” was written by Dan Goggin.SPTC’s version of “Nuncrackers” features Dee Anne Helsel as Reverend Mother, Lillian Golumbesky as Sister Mary Paul, Amanda Lastort as Sister Robert Anne, Sarah Goodwin as Sister Hubert, Lonnie Woodley as Father Virgil and Courtney Johnson as Sister Mary Leo. The students of Mount St. Helen’s School are played by Michael Brown as John, Tanner Woodley as Billy, Jonette Tibbetts as Maria and Sarah Hall as Louise.The production is under the direction of Frederick Helsel, with choreography by Alexandra Lastort. The set was designed by Fred Helsel and Will Shupe, with lighting design by Christian West. Musical accompaniment is by Gary Poirot, with costume design by Randon Pool. The stage manager is Valerie Chase, with a crew of Suzi Skutley, Jennifer Skutley, Shannon Lewis and Karl Krause.

In addition, Pamela’s Antiques, Gifts & Tea Room sponsored the Opening Night Gala.Performances of “Nuncrackers” are Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees through December 17 at the Santa Paula Theater Center, 125 South 7th St. in Santa Paula. Performance times are at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings, and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoons. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and $10 for children 12 and under.
