Since 1945, United Way of Ventura County has been actively involved in raising vital resources that help support many worthwhile charitable causes and organizations by supporting programs and services accessed by many people and families in need. This year is no exception with United Way doubled its efforts by aggressively conducting community outreach at non-traditional locations around the city of Santa Paula. On Friday, Feb. 8, United Way of Ventura County made contact with over 150 individuals by distributing information on the Earned Income Tax Credit to customers at the Bank of America on Main Street. Bank of America is a strong supporter of United Way and sponsor of the Earn It Keep It Save It program — a free tax preparation service for individuals and families making less than $40,000 in 2007.
On Saturday, Feb. 9, United Way, the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce, Santa Paula Hospital and other community groups where out in full force distributing information on 2-1-1— a free information and referral phone number — and other public health and safety information at the Vons grocery store. Over 20 community volunteers distributed information to more than 500 shoppers.   Employee charitable-giving campaigns are currently being conducted at Weyerhaeuser Company — an environmentally-conscious paper products production company — and at the Ventura County Regional Sanitation District as well as at the City of Santa Paula. “It’s simply phenomenal to see a community come together in support of such an important community service,” United Way’s Pedro Chavez. “2-1-1 is key to our community’s well-being because it serves as a one-call service that can get you the help and the answers one needs. I would like to thank everyone who volunteered their time by speaking to the many residents of the Santa Paula community who cane benefit by accessing 2-1-1.”
