SPHS Walk to School Day is October 16th
October 15, 2008
Santa Paula High School
Five seniors took part in the articulated program with California State University at Channel Islands: Edwin Mancilla, Kimberly Espinoza, Rocio Ramirez, Maria Salceda, and Estefany Moreida. The five week program introduced the students to the life in a day of a college student.
The Developmental Psychology class was very challenging but all of the students were able to handle the rigors of the assignments. The high school students received college credit and did not pay a single dime for tuition or books. In addition, they took an educational fieldtrip to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles and they got a tour of the Camarillo Airport Medi-Vac program. The best part was a stipend of $1680 to put towards their college education. The Human Service Academy Seniors are now working towards the possibility of getting a free four-year scholarship to CSUCI. They must complete a senior project that involves working with Ms. Stamp along with the Health and Wellness Committee at Santa Paula High School during the 08-09 school year. Their first task is to plan, promote, and organize the Walk to School Day on October 16th. They are working in conjunction with the SESPE Club to encourage student participation in the healthy event along with making a difference in the environment. All students and staff will receive juice and muffins for their efforts and prizes will be distributed.
