Desireé E. Flora Desireé E. Flora was born January 18, 1978 and passed away at home on November 15, 2008 in Santa Paula. She was born in Oakland, and raised in Ojai from 1986 until moving to Santa Paula in 2006.Desireé is survived by her mother Lana, brother Marc, father Douglas, and Aunt Margaret and Uncle Ron.Desireé was always an honor roll student, loved competing in gymnastics, and became Miss Ojai in 1994. Her soul was always full of love. Her smile could brighten anyone’s day; her beauty would light up a room, and her generosity would warm your heart.She was unbelievably talented. She made an impression on everyone she came in contact with. She loved animals, dancing and tumbling. She excelled in everything she put her mind to.A memorial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 18 at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to help with funeral costs be made to: Rabobank, c/o Lana Flora, Acct. # 260165925.Phyllis Ethel StammPhyllis Ethel Stamm, 91, of Fillmore, passed away January 1, 2009. She was born October 28, 1917 in Portsmouth, England, and had been a county resident for the last 25 years, moving here from Hemet, CA.Mrs. Stamm was a nurse for 40 years, working from 1939 to 1979 in ICU, CCU, OBGYN and Hospice care. She was the director of volunteers, and enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, and community activities, along with being a member of the League of Women Voters, P.T.A., and other community affairs.Mrs. Stamm is survived by her son, Stephen Peters of Camarillo; stepson, Richard Stamm of West Virginia; and two grandchildren, Kendall Deirdre Peters and Jocelyn Victoria Peters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barton; a sister, Margaret; and a son, Richard Barton Peters; along with two brothers, William and Victor.Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 19 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Santa Paula. Private interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the American Red Cross.

She was a resident of Ventura County for 31 years.She was born in Hong Kong, China. She worked as a teacher in Hong Kong for eight years, and she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her husband and two daughters, and Mahjong.Lai Ping was preceded in death by her parents, Ning Fatt Yuen and Siu Yung Chan.Lai Ping is survived by her husband, Rick Hom of Santa Paula; daughters Cyndy Hom and Karen Hom of Burbank; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ling and Wah Hom of Santa Paula; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Danny and Lisa Hom of Santa Paula; nephews: Jason Hom of Porter Ranch and Jeffrey Hom of Santa Paula; nieces, Jalane Hom of Northridge and Jessica Hom of Porter Ranch; brother-in-law and sister, Allen and Eva Witt of Ventura; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Eugene Yuen of Hong Kong; brother-in-law and sister, Tommy and Connie Kwan of Ventura; sister Shirley Tat of Ventura; brother-in-law and sister, Daniel and Amy Zia of Oak Park; brother Ken Yuen of Eugene, Oregon; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.There will be a visitation for Lai Ping at the Skillin Carroll Mortuary Chapel, Thursday January 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be a chapel service at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 16 at Skillin Carroll Mortuary Chapel, followed by a graveside service immediately following at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin Carroll Mortuary, 525-3391.
