Marisa Espinosa, the daughter of Victor and Laura Espinosa of Santa Paula, is training to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Marisa, who lives in northern California, is participating in the Team in Training program. She has been training to compete in an Olympic-distance triathlon to raise funds for those affected by cancer. “The Team is raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives,” she said. “I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling cancer.”Later this month she will swim one mile in the Pacific Ocean, bike 24 miles and then run six miles, all to raise awareness for those suffering from leukemia. She is asking Santa Paula residents to help her reach her fund-raising goal of $4,800. Checks can be made out to LLS and sent care of Marisa Espinosa, 1250 San Carlos Avenue, San Carlos, CA 94070. Donations can also be made online at http://pages.teamintraining.org/sj/lavatri09/mespinosa“Thanks to all of you who have so generously donated,” Marisa said. “I super appreciate it and I’m so close to being at least half way there.”
Espinosa says she works out six days a week, about one to one and a half hours per day. She especially wants to get the word out to people in the Hispanic community about leukemia. She says there are two websites that have information. They are: www.livestrongespanol.com and www.latinascontracancer.org
