Rebecca Ruth (Becky Walkup) EatonIt is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Becky Walkup Eaton. She went to be with Our Lord on May 15, 2009; this leaves a great void in the lives and hearts of her family, her friends, and the many patients she was devoted to.Becky was born May 2, 1945 in Hallock, Minnesota to Ruth and Gerald Eaton. She was the oldest of four children. Having three brothers she developed, at an early age, the strength to move forward, stand up for herself and face a challenge. At the age of 40 and without a high school diploma, Becky started nursing studies and graduated in 1984. She entered USC, where she received her Master of Science in nursing, specializing in geriatrics. This was a challenge, as she was working shifts at three different hospitals. Her career began in public health, and she eventually became a certified oncology and Hospice nurse. Becky worked for Meditech Health Services, caring for patients throughout the county of Ventura. In 1995 Becky added the position of part time nurse for Santa Clara Valley Hospice, where she was dearly loved by her patients and their families.Becky has received certificates of appreciation from members of the U.S. Congress, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ventura County Board of Supervisors, Congresswoman Lois Capps, Senator Tom McClintock, and Assembly members Julia Brownlee and Pedro Nava. Becky was honored as a Woman of History by a local civic organization. One of her greatest honors was to receive the David C. Fainer Award as Community Nurse of the Year in 2007, having been nominated by her dear friend and colleague Dr. Mike Tushla.Becky enjoyed traveling anywhere by air, by motorcycle or in a motor home. Becky always met challenges upfront; although she was afraid of heights she went bungee jumping and skydiving. She often incorporated traveling with her passion for helping others. She and Bob traveled to Mexico to assist the Doctors and Dentists Christian Group. She also went to Turkey on a mission for IMPACT, through the Presbyterian Church.Becky served on the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Club; she was the keynote speaker as a cancer survivor for Santa Paula Relay for Life Walk in 2006. She was a deacon in the Presbyterian Church, and also their parish nurse. She is survived by her mother Ruth Barron of Fargo, North Dakota; brothers Brad, Bryce and Barry; daughters Tammy Hay and Heidi Morris (husband Doug); nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her friend, love and companion Bob Richardson.Becky was preceded in death by her father Gerald and her beloved Aunt Vivian of Jamestown, North Dakota. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to: Ventura County Community Foundation/Becky Eaton Nursing Scholarship, 1317 Del Norte Rd., Suite 150, Camarillo, CA 93010.A celebration of her life was held Saturday, May 23 at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 121 Davis St., Santa Paula.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin Carroll Mortuary, 738 E.
