Margaret Amaya Pinedo Our beloved mother Margaret Pinedo, 79, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Our Mom was born on March 4, 1930 in Douglas, Arizona.With her daughters, sons, nieces, nephews and many friends at her bedside, our mother left this earth to be with her son Raymond and daughter Frances, sisters Micaela and Eleanor, and brothers Adolph and Ralph.Our Mom is survived by her sisters Sarah Gonzalez of Santa Paula and Ernestina Gaitan of Fontana; her children, Lucy (James) Gallardo of Oxnard, Gloria (Jorge) Garcia of Oxnard, Guillermo Jr. (Linda) Pinedo of Oxnard, Dolores Pinedo of Oxnard, and Richard (Norma) Pinedo of Santa Paula; her grandchildren, Daphne Gallardo, Brian (Lissette) Gallardo, Raymond (Betty) Villarreal, Jason (Violet) Pinedo, Monique (Chad) Parlow, Richard Jr., Kevin Pinedo and Melissa Pinedo; and her great-grandchildren, Andrew Villagomez, Alexander Gallardo, Raenna, Nicholas, Bailey and Emily Villarreal, and Sabrina and Gabriel Pinedo. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, especially the two nieces who have been by her side throughout her illness, Denise Alcala and Lisa Gonzalez.Our Mom was a very devoted mother to us. Her love and presence will be deeply missed. Our beloved Mom was very caring to all who met her. As a long time resident of Santa Paula, the many friends who have known our Mom know the special person she was. My Mom’s greatest joy was to have family and friends come to her house so she could cook and spend time with them. The Lord now has our Mom for his flock of Angels.The visitation will be held on June 12 at 7 p.m. at Garcia Mortuary, 629 S. A St., Oxnard. Mass will be on June 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church, 235 9th St., Santa Paula. Our Mom will be buried at the Santa Paula Cemetery, where she will rest in peace with our sister Frances.Harry Lomison MaletteA man full to the brim with life, love and vision passed away after a short illness on May 6, 2009 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was born in Monmouth, Illinois on December 4, 1940 and, like his beloved cats, lived many lives.He honorably served in the United States Army from 1959-1961, before applying his entrepreneurial spirit to businesses ranging from aviation and sales to automotive technology. A longtime Santa Paula businessman, he owned and operated Harry’s Car Care for many years. He will be remembered for his love of a challenge, wild enthusiasm, colorful stories and infectious laugh.He is survived by his best friend, wife and partner of 43 years, Joan, daughters Beverly (Greg) Martinez and Leslie (Robert) Spero, and son Steven. Grandpa Harry will be missed by his grandchildren Brittany, Haley, Nicholas, Ross and Victoria, and great-grandson Brenden. Also mourning his passing are Melissa (James) Smith, Wendye Smith and niece Lorna (Tim) Nolte, and more relatives and friends than can be counted.A gathering celebrating Harry’s life will be held at the Glen Tavern Inn, 134 N. Mill St., Santa Paula on June 13 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Interment will be private.Daniel J. GomezIt is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Daniel Jess Gomez, who passed away unexpectedly on June 6, 2009 at the age of 30.Daniel was born in Ventura on July 7, 1978 to his parents Jesus and Carmen Gomez. He was raised and educated in Santa Paula, graduating from Santa Paula High School.Prior to graduation he decided to enlist in the United States Army, where he earned many recognitions and awards. Proud to serve his country and upon being honorably discharged, he re-enlisted with the National Guard. While serving with the Guard he continued his education, earning his realtor license thus beginning a career in real estate.As a youth he gained a passion in martial arts and earned his second-degree black belt, as well as being affectingly nicknamed “Daniel Sun” like the Karate Kid. He often volunteered his time instructing others when his workouts were complete. He also loved working and training his beloved Rottweilers, who bought him much joy.Daniel was preceded in death by his mother Carmen Gomez.He leaves his wife and son, Miriam and Michael; father Jesus; sisters Marie (Chris) Castaneda, Debra Herrera (Gary) Gomez, Jeanette (Jess) Ortega, and Barbara (Mitchell) Cervantes; brother Jesus Jr. (Frances) Gomez; in-laws Jesus and Maria Luna; brothers-in- law Jesus (Yesenia) Luna, Salvador (Erika) Luna, Jaime (Alma Mirella) Luna, and Ricardo (Imelda) Luna; along with many special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Although Daniel’s life was cut very short, his memories will last forever. His enormous beautiful smile brought happiness to all around him. He was a very caring person, always living life to the fullest, with an infectious laugh, which at times was contagious.He was always a loving husband and father, a good brother and son, a fun and playful uncle, a cousin and nephew like no other, and special friend you could always trust. We are all going to miss you; a person like you is hard to forget and you will remain in our hearts forever.On Daniel’s last tour of duty he left at a very turbulent time to the Middle East. Wishing to express his love and faith and unaware of his return, he left the following quote:“I am honored that God chose meworthy to live in the Heavens,where I will never feel pain andI’ll celebrate every day for eternity….I thank the Lord for giving me a wonderful family and friendsEven if it was for only a moment andI am not gone just away and somedayWe’ll be together forever.”A Chapel Service will be held on Friday, June 12 at 11 a.m. at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula, with Pastor Abel Garza officiating, followed with military honors at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E.
