County Behavioral Health eyeing SP Healthcare for treatment facility

If the Board of Supervisors agrees, this month the county will purchase Santa Paula Healthcare and the former convalescent hospital would become a short-term social rehabilitation/crisis residential facility serving seriously mentally ill adults.

By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesIf the Board of Supervisors agrees, this month the county will purchase Santa Paula Healthcare and the former convalescent hospital would become a short-term social rehabilitation/crisis residential facility serving seriously mentally ill adults.The 44-bed facility, located at 220 W. Main St., closed in recent months and the Ventura County Behavioral Health Care Agency would convert the building into a 15-bed non-lockdown treatment center.Patients not requiring hospitalization, according to an information sheet distributed by the county, would be treated voluntarily.
According to a spokesman for Supervisor Kathy Long the issue has been addressed with several entities including Glen City School, located east of the proposed facility and the Santa Paula Ministerial Association.According to the fact sheet distributed by the county the Board of Supervisors will consider finalizing the purchase this month.Planning, approvals and renovation work would be completed one year later and the program startup and occupancy would occur in September 2010.Request for comment from a county Behavioral Health representative was not received in time for Thursday’s press deadline.
